"We are dealing with a carpet of very good quality, made entirely of wool on a silk base. The ivory background pleasantly contrasts with the middle border. This border shows why Shah Abbas has an excellent coloratura. The design of the carpet incorporates a rosette medallion framed in intense colors surrounded by concentric medallions. The overall picture is very crowded but also full of bright colors. Blue is used as a strong color that speaks about the world beyond used often in the symbolism of Persian carpets."
Isfahan Rugs
Isfahan has long been one of the most important manufacturing centers for Persian rugs. The rugs here are usually designed using an ivory background and the ornaments are symmetrical and balanced. We find in the central part of the rug a medallion that is surrounded by floral motifs and palmetto leaves. The quality of these rugs is very high and the colors used for the interior motifs are blue, brown, ivory, green and more, all of them featuring an obvious naturalness.
